The London Heathrow Airport is the third busiest airport in the world serving more than 55 million passengers a year. Other airports serving the city are London Gatwick, London Luton, London Standsted, and London City, a relatively small airport mainly for business travel. The London Underground is a well known metro system that serves millions of passengers every day, connecting people within London and to other locations in the United Kingdom. It is also known as The Tube, and is the oldest and most expensive metro system in the world.

London has one of the largest bus transportation systems in the world that operates non-stop 24 hours day and serves millions of daily riders. The unique red double-decker buses of London and the black taxi cabs have given the city distinctive international recognition. London is a major global centre of education and has a large, prestigious and advanced system, particularly in higher education specializing in diverse fields. London serves more than 200,000 college/university students, and is the most popular place for international students.

The University of London is the largest university in the United Kingdom and in Europe with more than 130,000 total students. It includes constituent schools such as UCL, King's, Goldsmiths, Queen Mary, London School of Economics, SOAS, the Royal Academy of Music, the Courtauld Institute of Art and the Institute of Education. The Imperial College London and University College London are acclaimed and prestigious with strong programs in science, and together combine to serve more than 30,000 students. There are numerous venues and organizations to meet classic musical tastes including Barbican Arts Centre (principal base of the London Symphony Orchestra), Cadogan Hall (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) and the Royal Albert Hall (BBC Promenade Concerts and the city’s two main opera houses of Royal Opera House and the Coliseum Theatre. The Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Trinity College of Music are notable conservatories in the London. Modern music lovers can enjoy events at the The O2 arena (20,000 capacity) and The Earls Court Exhibition Centre. Additionally, the large records labels EMI and Decca Records have headquarters in London.

London has a large and world renowned theatre district known as the West End theatre. There are over 10 million spectators a year who enjoy London’s theatres.
